Karel Kryl (1944 – 1994) was an iconic Moravian singer-songwriter and performer of many protest songs in which he identified and attacked the stupidity and inhumanity of the Communist and later also post-communist regimes in his home country.
On October 6th 2014 in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic was officially revealed bronze bust of Karel Kryl on the occasion of his two life anniversaries – 20 years since the death and 70 years since his birth. His effigy became the only second bust in the Lower House after the bust of the first Czechoslovak president Tomas Garrigue Masaryk.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Cluture of the Czech Republic Mgr. Daniel Herman, attended by enterpreneur Karel Janecek, bust author and initiator of the event Pavel Monhart and Kryl’s brother Jan Kryl.
